Josephine “Joan” Curran (Dalto), age 86, of N. Weymouth went home to God, Tuesday, August 31, 2021. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by family. Joan was a lifelong Weymouth resident who graduated valedictorian of the business class, Weymouth High in 1952. She worked as a secretary for Principal Wipple at the High School for 4 years. She married her beloved husband, Joe, and was married for 56 years before his passing. They settled and raised their family in N. Weymouth.
Joan’s faith was very important to her, and she was an active member of Saint Jerome Parish for 63 years. A graceful lady and devout wife and mother, she was a wonderful listener and displayed a genuine interest and concern for others. Her home was full of love, always neat and welcoming to friends and family, especially apparent through her ongoing Friday night pizza parties. Although her salaried career was brief, she used her well-honed secretarial skills to proofread hundreds of her children’s school papers in a fashion that would make William Strunk and E.B. White proud. Joan enjoyed traveling with her husband; recalling Jerusalem, Ireland, Utah, and Florida as some of her favorite destinations. She also loved the change in seasons and every holiday, celebrating these through her extensive home decorations, card sending, and family parties.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph Curran. She is the loving mother of Mary Riley and her husband Chip of Hanover, Kathy Maynard and her husband Tim of Weymouth, Joanne Curran of Weymouth, Joe Curran and his late wife Karen of Weymouth, and Tony Curran and his wife Michele of Braintree, cherished grandmother of Andrew, Bill, Kate, Joanna, Joe, Danny, Elizabeth, Alison, Jessica, and Erika, great-grandmother to Caden, predeceased by her brothers Edward Dalto of Weymouth and Joseph Dalto of Braintree.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Joan on Thursday, September 9, 2021 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home Friday morning at 9:30am for a Celebration of Life prior to the funeral mass at St. Jerome Church in Weymouth at 10:30am. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery located in Weymouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Servants of Christ Ministries, Fr. Mike McNamara, 87A Maple Street, Scituate, MA 02066.
