Winnifred Murphy

Winnifred S. Murphy, age 95, of Rockland passed away peacefully on Friday, July 30, 2021. Winnie was born in Dorchester, MA. As a young girl her family moved to South Weymouth. She married her husband, Gerard, in 1950. They cultivated many memories while raising a family together in South Weymouth.

Winnie retired to Naples, Florida with Gerard from 1989-2005. She loved catalog shopping and was even on a first-name basis with her UPS driver. Winnie cherished her family and the many holidays they spent together. Along with being an ardent Red Sox fan and in earlier years candlepin bowling, she also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes. Among Winnie’s many favorite memories were the many cruises she and Jerry took together. She was also active in the Sancians Drum and Bugle at St. Francis for several years.

Winnie was predeceased by her husband Gerard J. Murphy Sr. and her sister Elizabeth. She is the mother of Barbara Scott of New Hampshire, Donna Straub and her husband Ted of Florida, Pamela Murphy of Rockland, Gerard Murphy Jr. and his wife Sheela of Melrose, and the late Dennis Murphy. Winnie is also the grandmother of Kirstin, Allison, Gregory, Lauren, Taryn, Daniel, Kayla, Kiran, Sreya and she has nine great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Winnie on Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 9-11:30am. A funeral service will take place in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 11am. Burial will follow in Bourne National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
