Walter Tranfaglia, age 89, of South Weymouth passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021. Wally was raised and educated in Dorchester graduating from Brighton H. S. in 1949. He married his beloved wife, Maria, that same year and they have enjoyed 72 years of marriage since. Walter and Maria started a family in Dorchester then moved to Weymouth in 1967 where they have lived since.
Walter was a lifetime member of the Teamsters Local 379. He helped negotiate union contracts for members. Bowling was a favorite pastime as well as card playing. He enjoyed visiting Montreal, Las Vegas, South Carolina, Florida, Disneyworld, and St. Kitts and spending time with friends. After his retirement in 1997 he spent many relaxing years with his wife and family on frequent trips to Cape Cod, family events, and cookouts. He was also an avid fan of the Red Sox and Patriots.
Walter is survived by his beloved wife Maria Tranfaglia (Lucchetti) of South Weymouth, his loving children Linda Lockwood and her husband Arthur of CT and Steven Tranfaglia and his wife Valerie of Whitman, his cherished grandchildren Kelly Mulvehill and Brian Farr, and his great-grandchildren Jack, Taylor, Nick, Ashleigh, Cody, and Ava, and his great-great-grandchild Ryker. Walter is also survived by his sister Beverly Short, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Walter on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home Wednesday Morning at 9:45am for a funeral service that will begin promptly at 10am. Burial will follow at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
