Jean Elinor Stovold (nee Swaine) of Venice, FL and Abington, MA passed away peacefully in her sleep at home at the age of 88 on March 25, 2021. She was the wife of the late Robert C. Lane and of William H. Stovold.
Jean was a graduate of Girls Latin School class of 1951 and Boston Children’s Hospital School of Nursing class of 1954. She completed her education at Northeastern University as a pediatric nurse practitioner in 1976. Jean worked tirelessly with compassion in her nursing career for over 60 years. In her retirement, she took joy in volunteering at South Shore Hospital, Weymouth, MA and Venice Regional Hospital, Venice, FL. Her nurturing nature touched all those who had the honor of knowing her.
Jean was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Braintree and started several women’s groups. She spent many years in the Scarlet Runner Chapter of the Red Hat Society, achieving the honor of the Charter’s Queen Mother. She was also a member and past Worthy Matron of the Order the Eastern Star (Braintree chapter #167). Jean enjoyed traveling, reading and was an avid knitter, starting the Knit-Wit Club in Venice, FL.
She is survived by her sister Phyllis W. Carlson of Hyde Park, four daughters, Cynthia (Lane) Hollis of Bermuda, Marsha (Lane) Fernandes of New Bedford, and twins Pamela (Lane) Murphy of Abington, and Paula (Lane) Dunlea of Wollaston, and two step daughters, Susan (Stovold) Alexander of Vermontville, NY and Sally (Stovold) Barry of Littleton. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Stovold was the daughter of the late Hedley S. Swaine and Mary E. (Reynolds) Swaine of Nova Scotia and Jamaica Plain. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Jean on Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth. A funeral service will take place at 4pm Friday, April 2, 2021 at the Union Congregational Church located at 74 Commercial St. Braintree, MA. Cremation will follow the funeral service.
