Richard (Dick) Murray, age 89, of Weymouth passed peacefully at home, on February 11,2021, following a lengthy illness. He leaves his wife Jacqueline (Jackie Norris) Murray, the love of his life for 68 years.
Richard was born in Arlington MA, the son of Harold Warren and Dorothea Murray. He grew up in Braintree MA, where he graduated from Braintree High School in 1949. After living in Braintree, Richard and Jackie moved to Weymouth where they raised their family.
The greatest source of his pride were his children, Karen, Glenn, and Alan. Richard is survived by his daughter, Karen Murray Dean, and the late John Dean of California, and his son, Alan Murray, and wife Heather of Virginia Beach. He was also a devoted grandpa to Keith and Neil Murray. He is survived by many nieces and nephews as well. He was predeceased by his son Glenn Richard Murray and his brother W. Warren Murray
Richard was a proud United States veteran. After High School, he served two years in the Army. He went on to work as a Bench Machinist at Pneumatic Scale in Quincy as well as serving in the Air Force Reserves for 17 years. This was followed by an opportunity to serve in the United States Navy. Richard was stationed in Boston as a Navy Recruiter for New England and Europe. He was awarded “Recruiter of the Year” in January 1991 and retired from the Navy as a Master Chief on the USS Constitution in Boston Harbor in August 1991.
Dick loved playing the piano and ballroom dancing. He and Jackie could be seen almost every Saturday night at the American Legion Hall dancing to a live band, enjoying Country Music, and socializing with friends. He was a life member of the American Legion, Post #79 of Weymouth, and a life member of the Weymouth-Braintree Lodge of Elks 2232 as well.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visitation for Richard on Wednesday, February 17,2021 from 4-6pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. Funeral will be at Holy Nativity Church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Richard’s memory can be made to the Weymouth Teen Center c/o Kathy Collins, 1393 Pleasant Street, East Weymouth.
