Loretta M. “Sally” (White) Hanifan of Weymouth, a loved mother and grandmother, passed away on January 20, 2021 from a brief illness. Born on Valentine Day, February 14, 1930, she was a woman derived of unconditional love with the biggest heart and sweet tooth.
Sally was the daughter of Wilfred and Loretta (Malcolm) White of Port Malcolm, Nova Scotia. Preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Donald “Dag” Hanifan and infant daughter Renee Marie. Loving mother to Robert D. and wife Maureen of Weymouth, daughter Loretta Hanifan of White Plains, NY and devoted grandmother to Robert Francis, Thomas Donald and Keryn Taylor of Weymouth, MA.
Sally graduated from the Jeremiah E. Burke High School for Girls and retired from Macy’s (Jordan Marsh) as a bookkeeper than as a part-time gift wrapper known for her beautiful wrapped gifts and bow making. Her favorite past-times were dress-making, knitting, reading a juicy novel, ceramics and baking sweets. For many years she was proudly a leader of the Camp Fire Girls of America.
Her most loved activity was traveling the world from an Africa safari to the Pyramids of Egypt. After traveling the world with family and friends she became a cruise ship fan with her grandchildren. She repeatedly traveled to her favorite destination of Hawaii.
Sally grew up in Field’s Corner, Dorchester were she held life long friendships that socialized for decades calling this special bond “Club”. The love of friendships also developed through her ceramics group which she traveled around the world with.
Survived by many nieces and nephews along with a special God-daughter, Julie Clark of Weymouth.
All are welcome to a graveside service which will be held at the Fairmount Cemetery in East Weymouth, on February 13, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. A memorial service will be scheduled later this summer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sally’s memory to the Weymouth Scholarship Fund through weymouth.ma.us.
