Thomas E. Tanner Sr., age 83, passed away after fighting Covid 19 with his loving family by his side on Saturday, January 16, 2021. Tom was born in Boston in 1937. He graduated from Charlestown H.S. He joined military in 1957, serving both the Navy and Army.
After his service, Tom started his 46-year career at the New England Telephone Company. He married his beloved wife of 58 years, Josephine (Nicholson), in 1962 at St. Francis Xavier Church in S. Weymouth. Tom and Jo settled in Weymouth where they have lived ever since and have cultivated such amazing memories of family and friends. Aside of such beautiful memories living in and helping the Weymouth community, some of Tom’s best memories were his summers spent in Marshfield and Bridgeton ME at their vacation homes.
Along with his career at the telephone company, Tom enjoyed designing and building houses both for his family and for sale. Tom had that amazing talent to take a difficult task and make it fun while making sure to complete the task.
For many years Tom enjoyed yearly trips to Bermuda with his wife and his annual trips with his friends to St. Marten. He also, after retiring in 2001, enjoyed trips with his wife Jo to Ireland and Iceland. Tom loved serving his Weymouth Community. He served as past-president and 41-year member of the Weymouth Rotary Club, was on the Weymouth 350th committee, serve on the D.P.W. currently Conservation Commission Chair.
Tom is survived by the love of his life Josephine, his loving children Thomas Tanner Jr. ( Joanne of Weymouth,) Teresa Roth (Chris of Pembroke), Tracey Nardone (Joseph of Weymouth,) Tricia Boivin (Leo of ME,) Tasha Haskell of Wareham, and Nikolay Dobrev and his wife Tip of Rockland, and his cherished grandchildren Joey, Chris, Corey, Paul, Brendan, Mauretta, Casey, Conrad, Josh, Conor, Sarah, Tommy III, Sydney, Bobby, Jacob & Gordon. Tom is also the loving brother of Elaine Hurd, David, Kevin, and James.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Tom on Friday, January 22, 2021 from 3-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. All Covid-19 restrictions including reduced capacity of guests inside the funeral home will be observed. Visitors are encouraged to utilize additional parking lot behind AE Barnes Insurance across the street from the funeral home. Relatives and friends will gather at Immaculate Conception Church in E. Weymouth on Saturday morning for a 10:30 Funeral Mass in honor of Tom’s life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rotary Scholarship Fund at PO Box 52 Weymouth, MA 02190.
