Marie “Gloria” Kobs, age 93, passed away August 28, 2019 in Indiana. Gloria, the oldest daughter of Richard and Bertha Gleason (Grison), was born and raised in Hyde Park with her sisters, Jean Walkins, Bertha Boyd, Lorraine Flynn, Maureen Carr, and her Aunt Marie Grison and Uncle John Grison. She married her high school sweetheart, William, in 1948 at Most Precious Blood Church where she had received her sacraments and attended elementary school. Gloria and William started a family in Hyde Park then settled in South Weymouth in 1954 where they created many memories while raising their three children.
After Gloria’s children were older she worked in administration for Howard Johnson’s for many years. When William passed away in 1985, Gloria returned to school to earn her home health-aid certification. She traveled extensively with her son Michael and daughter in-law, Mary, visiting Japan, Hawaii, Europe and the USA. Gloria loved staying busy and always had a trip or activity planned when she wasn’t caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she loved so much and was equally loved in return.
Gloria also loved gardening, opera, Klondike bars, Rice Krispies, and hosting Christmas Eve at her house. She had a special place in her heart for her Shih Tzu’s (Cocoa I and Cocoa II) and her cat, Sneakers. Gloria was always impeccably dressed and her house was always immaculate.
Gloria is survived by her beloved children Mary Choi and her husband Kerry of Milton, Bill Kobs and his wife Barbara of Plymouth, and Michael and his wife Mary of Indiana, her grandchildren Bill III, Kimberley, Amy, Allison, Brigette Brianna, and Nicholas Ian. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Liam, Dylan, Emma, Ben, Brady, Lily, Owen, Cody and Lincoln.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Gloria on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home for a Celebration of Life at 9am Wednesday prior to the funeral mass which will be at St. Francis Xavier Church, Weymouth at 10am. Burial will immediately follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Weymouth. Donations may be made to the Home for Little Wanderers at 50 Redfield St. #301 Dorchester, MA 02122.
