William R. Pillsbury Jr., age 94, of Whitman passed away after a long illness on December 28, 2018. Bill left Braintree schools early in order to join the Navy where he served on the USS Missouri “Big Mo”. On his arrival home he continued school at Weymouth Vocational in order to graduate. Bill married his wife of many years, Jean, in 1975 and they settled together in Whitman. Bill first worked at Weymouth Landing Auto then the Braintree School Department until he retired in 1989. He was also a member of the Braintree Auxiliary Police. Bill was a member of the South Shore Antique Auto Club, South Shore Train Club, and Community Baptist Church in Weymouth.
Bill is survived by his wife Jean Pillsbury (Burrows) of Whitman, and his nieces Sylvia Ryan, Cindy Sudbey, and Debbie Richards. He was predeceased by his siblings Richard Pillsbury, Virginia Pillsbury, and Ruth Losee.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Bill on Thursday January 3, 2019 from 4-6pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA. A Funeral Service in honor of Bill’s life will immediately follow the visitation at 6pm in the funeral home. Bill will have a private burial service at a later date in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
