Robert R. Loring

Robert R. Loring, a retired 36 year veteran of the Weymouth Fire Department, passed away on Thursday, August 02, 2018 at the age of 75. Bob was born, raised and educated in Weymouth. Throughout his life he stayed very active helping people. When his kids were young, Bob also owned Octopus' Garden Flower Shop in Weymouth. He was a backyard farmer and an avid organic gardener before it was popular. Bob donated eggs to the Weymouth Public Schools, so the children could watch them hatch.
He was a volunteer for Old Colony Hospice and the Dianne DeVanna Center with his “Got Diapers” campaign. Bob was a staunch Democrat, his favorite saying, "Question Authority." He was an elected member of the Weymouth DPW and a Board Member of Clean Water Action.
Bob loved live music of all kinds.
Bob was predeceased by his beloved wife, Meredith (Tisdale) Loring. He is survived by his loving children, David Loring and his wife Cindy, Tina Gomes and her husband Joe, both of Hanson, and Susan Sylvester and her husband Bill of Rockland. Bob also leaves his grandchildren, Melissa Loring Estes and her husband Brian, of Ellsworth, ME, Brian Loring of South Lake Tahoe, CA, Emily Sylvester and Jon Sylvester both of Rockland and his great grandchildren Juniper and Oscar Estes. He also leaves behind sister in law Mal Loring, nephew Michael and niece Meg Loring, and sister in law Debby Tisdale, niece Jennifer and nephew Scott Tisdale. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Ralph Loring and Marjorie (Gifford) Loring of Weymouth, his brother Kenneth Loring of Scituate and sister, Janet Loring of Braintree.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours for Bob on Monday, August 6th from 4-8 PM in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the Funeral Home for a Celebration of Life in honor of Bob on Tuesday August 7th starting at 10. Burial will be in Village Cemetery in Weymouth.
