Joseph S. O’Neill, age 80, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 11, 2018. Joe was born in Boston and raised in Houghs Neck before moving to Weymouth 50 years ago. He was a manager of Papa Gino’s Restaurant in Quincy before opening his own restaurant, Hungry Joe’s in Weymouth for 18 years. After retirement he continued working as a manager in the cafeteria at Beechwood Knoll Elementary School in Quincy for 20 years. He loved listening to music, reading and gardening, but most of all he loved his family.
Joe is now with the love of his life, the late Mary B. (Crozier) O’Neill and is survived by his children, Joseph O’Neill and his partner Dora Quesada of Weymouth, James O’Neill and his wife Laurie of Rockland, Kathleen Sweezey and her partner Jay Peter of Weymouth and Robert O’Neill and his wife Danielle of Rockland and longtime family friend, Felix Pineda of Weymouth. He is the brother of Margaret O’Neill of Middleborough and Barbara Logan and her husband Thomas of Quincy. Joe also leaves 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Stone formerly of Weymouth.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours for Joe on Wednesday, May 16 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Thursday, May 17 at 8:30am for a celebration of life prior to the Funeral Mass which will take place at 9:30am at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth. Interment will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
Since Joe was a stage four cancer survivor the family requests that donations may be made in Joe’s memory to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168, www.dana-farber.org.
