Joseph F. Murphy Sr., age 84, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Joe was born and raised in Dorchester where he also graduated. Joe served his country in the Navy and, when his deployment was complete, he became a member of Local 67 Carpenters Union where he enjoyed working for 35 years before his retirement in 1993. Joe enjoyed fishing and was known for his Chicken Parm. Joe will always be remembered by his family and friends for having a big smile and a twinkle in his eye which brightened any room he entered.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Mulhern) Murphy, his children, Joseph F. Murphy Jr. of Plymouth, Michael J. Murphy of Pembroke, and Maryellen Zedlar and her husband Jeff of La Crescenta, CA and his grandchildren, Ashley, Emily, Matthew and Mikayla Murphy and Veronica and Christopher Zedlar. He also leaves his sisters, Alice Molignano and Eleanor O’Connor both of East Weymouth and many nieces and nephews. Joseph is predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Nickerson of Maryland.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Joe on Friday, November 10 from 4-8 pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home Saturday morning at 10:30 am for a Memorial Service which will begin promptly at 11am.
