Barbara Elaine Baron, age 90, of Quincy, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017. She is survived by her nephew, Douglas Selover, his wife Anne and their children, Joseph. Matthew and Margot all of Liverpool, NY and her niece Catherine Pittenger and her husband James of Calabash, NC. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Claude and Violet Baron.
She was born and raised in Boston and moved to Weymouth after the outbreak of World War II before living in Quincy for the last 40 years.
While living in Boston, she attended Boston Latin School and later received her Bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston at the age of 61 and received her Master’s Degree form UMass Boston at the age of 70.
In 1962 until her retirement at the age of 82, she became an Administrative Assistant to chair, Department of Surgery and Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School and in 1975 she was the Staff/Faculty Assistant in the Department of Medicine at NE Medical Center and Tufts University, Administrative Secretary to the Associate Chair of the Department of Medicine NEMC and Administrative Secretary to the chief of the Division of Rheumatology.
Barbara was a past member of the Association of Administrators in Internal Medicine, the Massachusetts Paralegal Association and the Administrator of the Massachusetts chapter of American College of Physicians.
She served in the Marine Corps from 1944 to 1945.
Barbara traveled extensively in the US and Canada, she loved the ocean, vacationed on the Cape and spent time in New Hampshire, Vermont and Maine. She was an avid Skier and watercolor artist.
A grave side service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery, 302 Elm St. in Everett on Monday, August 21 at 2 PM.
