Edward W. Spry Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday June 20, 2017. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Greeley) Spry, his children, Robert E. Spry and his late wife Camille of Medford, Kevin L. Spry and his wife Joana of Rehoboth, Edward W. Spry Jr. and his wife Nancy of Weymouth, Johanna M. Spry of Rockland and Shirley Anne Volpe and her husband Doug of Marshfield. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Ed is predeceased by his two sons, Ronald F Spry formerly of Ft. Orange, FL and Stephen J. Spry formerly of Weymouth and his granddaughter, Kelli Ann.
Edward was born in Arlington, grew up in Somerville and lived in South Boston and Dorchester prior to moving to Weymouth in 1970. Ed was a self-employed fence installer over many decades. He served his Country in the Army during the Korean War.
Ed was a member of the VFW Post 529 in Sommerville, the Eagles, Aerie 28 of Weymouth and a past member of Local 103 Laborers Union.
Ed loved gardening with flowers and Vegetables and loved animals especially feeding the birds.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours in honor of Ed on Monday, June 26 from 4-8pm at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home Tuesday morning for a celebration of life which will begin promptly at 10 AM.
