Irma Mooney

Irma H. Mooney (Hunt), age 89, of Weymouth passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 15, 2017. Irma was born in Brockton, grew up in Hull, and attended Hingham Schools. She was a graduate of the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing where she began her lifelong career in nursing. Irma met her husband, Richard, while attending college in Boston. They soon got married, started a family in Brookline, then settled in Weymouth in 1955 where they raised their family. Irma always stayed in touch with her roots, taking many family trips to Nantasket Beach in Hull where she grew up. Irma spent many of her summer vacations at Newfound Lake, NH with her family. Irma was fun, witty, compassionate, and will always be remembered for her love for her family, lifelong nursing career, playing bridge and her passion for all sports.

Irma was the beloved wife of the late Richard P. Mooney, she is the loving mother of Rick Mooney and his wife Carol of Weymouth, Donna Bradford of FL, Jan DePari of Bridgewater, Jeffrey Mooney and his wife Mary of Marshfield, Pamela Needle and her husband Bill of FL, and Thomas Mooney of Hanover, and devoted sister to Avis Studley and her husband Tom of Hingham. Irma is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for Irma on Wednesday June 21, 2017 from 4-8pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. A funeral service celebrating Irma’s life will take place on Thursday at 10AM in the Old South Union Congregational Church located at 25 Columbian St. Weymouth, MA 02190. Interment will immediately follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Weymouth. Donations in memory of Irma may be made to the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.
