Gertrude M. Hurney

Gertrude “Trudy” M. (Bagley) Hurney, age 92, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017. Trudy was the wife of the late James N. Hurney and is survived by her loving children, Kathleen Bennett and her husband Philip of S. Weymouth and Joseph Hurney and his wife Maureen of Rockland, her devoted grandchildren Jennifer Butts and her husband Christopher of Weymouth, Kevin Bennett and his wife Kristy of Kingston, Nicole Jenkins of Braintree, Stephen Bennett and his wife Brianne of SC, and Christopher Bennett of S. Weymouth. Gertrude also leaves 5 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Gertrude was born in Brighton, grew up in Jamaica Plain and lived in Hyde Park before moving to Rockland. She served her country in the Navy as a Pharmacist’s Mate during World War II. Trudy was a Nurse at Peter Bent and Brigham Hospital in the Out-Patient Clinic for many years.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Gertrude on Tuesday, May 2 from 4-8 PM at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home on Wednesday, May 3 at 8:30 AM for a Celebration of Life prior to the Funeral Mass which will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church in Weymouth at 9:30 AM. Interment will follow at the Gardens of Gethsemane in West Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Trudy’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
