Jean E. (Diges) Svagzdys age 94, passed away Feb 29, 2016 at her home in Hingham, MA. Born April 4 1921 in Pittsburgh, PA, she grew up in the borough of Wilkinsburg.
As a child asthmatic confined to her bed, her lifelong love of books, poetry & art began. She was a lover of nature & delighted in seeing the budding blossoms of spring & the first robin of the season.
Jean’s career as a Registered Nurse included service during WW2 where she sailed on the Queen Mary to England. In 1953 while stationed at Valley Forge Army Hospital in PA she met her future husband John, her patient at the time. They were married in June the same year and settled in Brockton MA.
Jean was a proud founding member of Mass. Citizens for Life and remained a passionate defender of the unborn throughout her life.
She was a devout Catholic and derived much comfort & inspiration from her faith. She was a loving, kind and tender-hearted mother and her family will greatly miss her.
Jean is survived by her husband John, her daughters Julie McCarthy and her husband Kevin, Marie Lindros, Cecilia Svagzdys and Jeanne Svagzdys, and her son, John Jr. and his wife Amber, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
A Mass for family and friends was said March 12 at Our Lady of Sorrows Convent Chapel in Brockton, MA.
