Ruth E. Anderson (Gillis), age 93, a lifelong Weymouth resident passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family. Ruth attended Boston University and then during the end of WWII she volunteered as an Air Raid Warden and Red Cross Nurse’s Aid. Ruth loved working and staying busy so says her work history including secretary to the principal of Weymouth High 1941-48, Secretary Old South Union Church 1962-67, and librarian at the Fogg Library from 1967 until retirement in 1981. Ruth continued to serve her community even through retirement preparing meals for the Quincy Crisis Center and delivering meals on wheels in Weymouth until the age of 90. Although she felt staying busy was important, Ruth always found time for her true love which was her family especially her grand and great-grandchildren of whom she was so proud.
Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband Cyril Anderson. Ruth is survived by her loving children Kenneth Anderson and wife Lucia of Weymouth, Brian Anderson and his wife Barbara of Weymouth, Michael Anderson of Weymouth, Nancy Burke and her husband Gregory of Quincy, and the late Wayne Anderson. Ruth is the cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service in honor of Ruth on Wednesday November 4, 2015 at 10AM at Old South Union Church located at 25 Columbian Street Weymouth, MA 02190. Burial will be at Bourne National Cemetery and will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
