Barbara Ann Hoffman, age 90, of Hingham formerly of Weymouth passed away peacefully on October 16, 2015. Barbara was born, raised, and educated in Eldorado, IL but has lived in Weymouth since 1946. She graduated Northwestern University where she received a BS Degree from the School of Speech in 1946. She was a member of Phi Beta Women’s Professional Fraternity of Music & Speech, and played the alto saxophone in the marching band. Barbara lived a very active lifestyle even into her later years being a member of both Cohasset Golf Club and Hingham Yacht Club, and volunteering her time at Holy Nativity Church in Weymouth and Norwell Knoll Nursing Home. She loved swimming, golfing, walks, candle pin bowling, and even gave tennis a few tries, but most of all, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family.
Barbara was the beloved wife of the Late James Gidcumb who was killed in a plane accident during WW II and the Late Henry Hoffman for whom she was married to for 52 years. She is survived by her loving children Carol Michelot and her late husband Jacques of Nice, France, Ann Scott and her husband John Daniels of Weymouth, Preston Hoffman and his wife Robin of Scituate, Mark Hoffman and his wife Anne of Dover, MA, and Geoff Hoffman and his wife Julie of Hanover. Barbara is also survived by her cherished 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours for Barbara on Sunday October 25, 2015 from 4:30 – 6:30pm at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. Relatives and friends will gather at the Holy Nativity Church located at 8 Nevin Rd. South Weymouth on Monday at 10am for a funeral service in honor of Barbara. Burial will be at Old North Cemetery, Weymouth.
