Betty (Muir) Smith-Lindstrom, 95, died on Sunday morning, July 12, 2015. She was born in Quincy, MA, on June 5, 1920, a daughter of the late Robert and Hulda (Johnson) Muir. In 1944, Betty married Frederick W. Smith, of Beaver Falls, PA, who was stationed in Quincy before being shipped out for the battlefield in Europe during World War II. Together, they had three children: Donald, Jacquelyn, and Larry. Fred died in 1978, and a few years later, Betty married Edward Lindstrom.
During the war, Betty was employed as a tin knocker at Fore River Ship Yard and afterwards worked for many years at Hilliard’s Candy Store, first in North Weymouth and later in Abington. Betty was a long-time member of the Viking Club and was their head bartender well into her eighties. She enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, bingo, and watching movies, and was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Besides her parents and both husbands, Betty was predeceased by her three sisters, Dorothy Rhinehardt, Evelyn Kyler, and Marion Green, as well as by her son-in-law, Bruce Swanson. She is survived by her daughter, Jacquelyn Swanson, as well as by her two sons, Donald Smith and his wife, Janis, and Larry Smith and his wife, Laurie, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery located on Pond Street in South Weymouth on Friday, July 17, 2015 at 11AM. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
