Esther Houghton, Age 92, of Brockton, formerly of Weymouth passed away suddenly at her home on Wednesday April 8, 2015. Esther was born, raised, and educated in Weymouth. She attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy where she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree. Later, she also attended Bridgewater State College where she got her Master’s Degree in Education. Esther struggled with agoraphobia, the fear of open areas and crowds her whole life. Instead of letting her disability define her life, she embraced it, living a very full life helping others with agoraphobia. She founded A.S.S.E.R.T. to help other agoraphobias, writing newsletters and conducting group meetings. Esther enjoyed crocheting, reading, word games, and writing but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family and helping others.
Esther is survived by her beloved daughter Judith Yalowchuk and her husband Francis of Weymouth and her son Terry A. Cobb and his wife Helen of Port Richey, FL. Cherished grandmother to JulieAnna Yalowchuk-Gray and her husband James of Brockton, Lori Yalowchuk-Doty, Kristina Louise Yalowchuk and Jonathon D. Yalowchuk all of Weymouth. Esther was also the proud great-grandmother of Joshua, Krystal, Jacob and the great-great-grandmother of Aubrey and Autumn.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visiting hours for Esther at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant Street Weymouth (S. Weymouth Columbian Sq.) from 9-11AM on Thursday April 16th. A Funeral Service will Immediately follow in the funeral home at 11AM. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth at a later date.
