Italo J. (Sid) Mannai, 84, of Pembroke for 45 years, formerly of Quincy, passed away on Sunday February 1, 2015 surrounded by his loving family.
Sid was the loving husband for 54 years of Carolyn A. (Burgess) Mannai and was the devoted father of David J. Mannai of Keene, NH, Laurie E. (Mannai) Slinger and her husband Frederick of Rockland and Steven A. Mannai and his wife Missy of Marshfield. He was the loving grandfather of Samuel and Hannah Mannai, Allison and Carlie Mannai, and Seamus Slinger. He is also the father-in-law of Jessica Mannai of Keene, N.H.
Italo was the son of the late Frederick V. and Eva (Pestilli) Mannai, and brother of the late Anthony, Renato, and Nedo Mannai.
He graduated from Quincy High School in 1949 and went to work with his Father at Fred V. Mannai and Son Painting until 1969. Then he went to work for the Quincy Housing Authority as a supervisor before retiring after 34 years in 2002. After retiring he worked for over 12 years as a Funeral Assistant for C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home. He was a member of The Painters and Allied Trades Union #939 for over 50 years and was in the Naval Reserves. When younger he worked many years at O’Lindy's Bowling Alley in Quincy. He enjoyed his local sports teams especially the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the B.C. Eagles.
Sid was a true family man who loved his family. His Grandchildren were the "Stars in the Sky" to him. He will be truly missed by all the people who knew him.
The Visiting hours will be on Thursday Feb.5, 2015 from 4-8pm at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Square) South Weymouth. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday Feb. 6, 2015 at 12 pm at John the Baptist Church, 44 School St. Quincy, Ma. 02169 A private burial will be held at a later date.
