Jean Stonehouse, age 69, died Monday after a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She was the loving sister of Bob Stonehouse and his wife Jeanne of Dover, NH; Kathy Cumming and her husband Donnie of Plymouth; and Peg Mirabassi of Hingham; and was the adored aunt of her six nieces, four nephews, and thirteen great-nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Frank and Peg Stonehouse.
Jean devoted her life to her family and to her work at Bridgewater State University, where she served as a professor in the history department for over forty years and was a frequent commencement speaker. She also served as president of the of the Massachusetts State College Association’s chapter at Bridgewater. A committed Democrat, Jean was involved in party activities on the local and state level. She was a lifelong dog owner and supporter of the Poodle Rescue of New England. She will be remembered by family and friends alike for her quick wit, warm heart, selflessness, and passion for education.
A funeral service will be held at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.), South Weymouth on Saturday, November 29 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Weymouth.
