John Patrick O’Callaghan passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62 on Monday February 24, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Jean Byrne (Queenie), his mother Shirley of Lecanto, FL, three brothers, Bruce and Rick of FL, and Steve of Marshfield, MA, and a sister Rhonda of FL. He was predeceased by his father Jack and his brother Terry. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Patrick was born in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia and moved with his family to South Weymouth at age thirteen. Patrick was a talented leather craftsman and founded Renaissance Leather in 1972 in Hingham, MA. Patrick’s talents were extraordinary. He gave the same artistic attention to a customer’s first wallet as he did to a CEO’s last briefcase. He created leather works for customers from well-known rock icons to corporate executives. In Patrick’s own words, “Leather lives on a lot longer than the animal it came from; it will live on long after I’m gone.” Patrick will be lovingly missed by his family, friends and loyal customers. A memorial visiting hours will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant Street, (Columbian Square), South Weymouth on Saturday, March 1st. from 2-6PM.
