William M. Burke, age 88, passed away at the South Shore Hospital on Saturday November 23, 2013. Bill was the husband of the late Mary A. (Glynn) Burke and is survived by his 6 children, William M. Burke Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Acton, Thomas Burke and his wife Adrienne of St. Louis, MO, Martha Lawless and her husband John of Pembroke, Mary Ellen Gallant and her husband John of Weymouth, John Burke and his wife Lauren of Weymouth and Robert Burke and his wife Patricia of Concord and his 9 grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, John, Michael, Christopher, James, Emily, Zoe and Jonathan and his 2 great granddaughters, Emma and Abby. He also leaves his sister, Gertrude Warjas of Clinton, CT and many nieces and nephews. William is predeceased by his sister, Mary Logan.
Bill was born in Quincy, grew up in Quincy Point and lived in South Weymouth for the last 60 years. He served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War 2 and was a life long employee of New England Telephone Company until his retirement in 1983.
He loved playing the piano and loved music. Bill enjoyed making fine furniture and was a great builder of family homes in Massachusetts and Vermont. His whole life centered around his Family.
The Funeral will be from the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Wednesday, November 27 at 10 AM followed by the Funeral Mass at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 234 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth at 11 AM. Visiting Hours will be on Tuesday 4 to 8 PM. Burial will be in the Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
