Marian M. (Bennette) Gerstel, age 98, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Oct 28, 2013. Marion was born on July 24, 1915 in Boston to the late James E.R. Bennette and Maude Ruby Bennette of Quincy. She was married to her husband, the late Robert M. Gerstel and is survived by her daughter, Nancy J. Curtin and her husband, William B. Curtin of AZ and her daughter-in-law, Susan Goode Gerstel of Braintree. She also leaves her grandchildren William R. Curtin and his wife Nancy B., James M. Curtin and his wife Mary, Robert Gerstel, Michelle L. Curtin, Amy (Gerstel) McIntyre and her husband Damien and Brian Gerstel, her twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Marian is predeceased by her loving children, James R. Gerstel and Robert B. Gerstel and her brother, Arthur Earl Bennette and her sister-in-law, Betty Bennette.
She graduated from Quincy High School and the Fay Business School in Boston. Marian worked as a secretary at the Granite Trust Bank and at the Quincy Shipyard during WWII. Later in life, she co-owned the South Shore Fish Market in East Weymouth with her husband Robert. She worked there until her retirement. Her enjoyment in life was shopping, Bingo, and time spent summers with her family at Grindell’s Ocean View Trailer Park on Cape Cod. She had many friends from all over New England.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Tuesday, November 5 from 4to7 PM at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth. A private funeral service will be held at the Funeral Home.
