Gail E. (McAskill) Jennings-Zastrow, age 73, a Cape Cod resident since 1999, formerly of South Weymouth, died Saturday after a long illness surrounded by her loving family.
Gail was the wife of the late Horst G. Zastrow and the late Robert K Jennings Jr. Born in Quincy, raised and educated in Weymouth, Mrs. Zastrow graduated from Weymouth High School and attended Quincy Junior College.
Mrs. Zastrow was a member of the National Baton Twirling Association, also teacher and judges association; as well as an All American Drum & Bugle Association Judge. Gail was an instructor for the Brookline and Weymouth Recreation Departments. Gail also served as an instructor at Ithaca College Camp in New York, Shea’s Baton Twirling Camp in Hadscorth, Illinois and many clinics throughout New England. She was the former secretary to the Director of the Weymouth YMCA, a fund organizer for the YMCA Headquarters and a youth organizer for the local YMCA. Gail adored working with children at the Child Care Center at the YMCA, also as a Camp Fire Girl Leader and at the Boston School for the Deaf. She was an avid supporter of the St. Francis Xavier Drum and Bugle Corps and Drill Team.
Formerly employed by Bemis Drug in Abington and BCBS in Rockland. Gail was also the office manager for the Bob Jennings Orchestra. She moved to Sandwich in 1999 after summering on Cape Cod since 1972. Gail’s happiest moments were spent during the summer months with family and friends at Peter’s Pond Park on Cape Cod.
Devoted mother of MaryLou Kreckie and her husband Michael of Pembroke and Robert K. Jennings, III of Plymouth. Loving grandmother to Matthew John Kreckie of Pembroke. Dear sister of Paula Ray and her husband Paul of Whitman, Karen Sweeney and her husband Gerald of Sandwich, Ann Marie Taylor and her husband Edward of New Hampshire, and the late John McAskill, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. Also survived by dear friend Julie Foster of Plymouth and longtime friend Jack Faustini of Weymouth.
A private graveside service will be held at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
