Joseph I. Volpe Jr., age 86, of Hingham, formerly of Weymouth, passed away at the South Shore Hospital on Wednesday May 8, 2013. Joe was survived by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy (Chadbourne) Volpe, his 2 children, Sandra J. Volpe of Weymouth and Robert J. Volpe and his wife Susan of Enid, OK and his 2 grandchildren, Nicholas and Jonathan Volpe both of Enid, OK. He is predeceased by his parents, Joseph Volpe Sr. and Elma Volpe.
Joseph was born and grew up in Quincy, moved to Weymouth in 1958 and has lived in Linden Ponds in Hingham since 2004. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1943 and the University of Maine in 1949.
He was a sales engineer for Boston Gear Works for 40 years before retiring in 1990. Joe served his country in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He was a member of the Rural Masonic Lodge in Quincy and the Community Baptist Church in Weymouth. Joseph was an amateur Ham Radio Operator for many years with the call sign K1JV.
Visiting will be at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Monday, May 13 from 4 to 5:30 PM immediately followed by the Funeral Service at the Funeral Home at 5:30 PM.
