Randolph R. Janeway, age 86, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of Marilyn (Brown) Janeway for 55 years, beloved father of Carol J. McCarthy and her husband Mick of Sudbury, Matthew A. Janeway of Weymouth, and cherished grandfather of Shayne and Kate McCarthy. Randy, son of the late Dr. William Richard Janeway and Carol Rodman Janeway, was born and raised on Staten Island, NY. He is predeceased by his sister Carol J. Anderson and brother W. Walser Janeway and leaves his sister-in-law Ann Janeway of Guilford along with many nephews and nieces. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII and graduated from Rutgers University in 1951. He was a member of Delta Phi Fraternity and was on the crew and swim team. Prior to his senior year he spent the summer working on a paddle wheel steamer in Alaska.

Randy was hired for the Chicago office of Flexible Tubing Corp. of Guilford, CT. and while training there he met Marilyn “Frankie” Brown of Guilford. He proposed on their first date and they were married in 1958. They later returned to CT to live. He was with Whitney Blake in Hamden for many years before moving to the Boston area to work for Boston Insulated Wire and later IKON in Westwood, MA where he retired at the age of 70.

Randy was dedicated to his church and community. While a resident of North Branford, CT he was treasurer for Zion Episcopal Church and a member of the committee which nominated and won the All-American Town Award for North Branford - one of three in the country. A resident of Weymouth for 41 years, he served on the vestry of Trinity Church and was senior warden. He was a BSA scout leader and troop committee member. He also had a 40 year association with The Fine Arts Chorale where Marilyn sings and he served as treasurer for 8 years while enjoying many european concert trips together. He was a loyal member of the Weymouth Elks for 20 years, a licensed lay reader and long time member of the men’s Cursillo Group at Church of the Holy Nativity.

His quick wit, unending supply of jokes, stories and poems, along with his ready smile and good nature towards all will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, May 9th from 5 to 8 pm at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St, S. Weymouth. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 10th at Church of the Holy Nativity, 8 Nevin Road, S. Weymouth.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Church of the Holy Nativity or The Fine Arts Chorale, P.O. Box 164, Weymouth, MA 02190.
