Roberta I “Bobbie” (Meharg) Ferguson 92, of Weymouth, formerly of Quincy and Rockland, passed away peacefully at Pope Nursing Home on June 27th 2012. She was born in Boston and raised and educated in Dorchester Ma, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary Meharg. She lived in Milton and Quincy for most of her life and spent her senior years at Leisurewoods in Rockland and Allerton House in Weymouth, along with Pope Nursing Home. Roberta worked as a young woman at John Hancock in Boston. She was a cafeteria worker in the Quincy Public Schools for many years along with a cashier at Purity Supermarket.
She was a beautiful seamstress, making her own and her daughter’s wedding gowns. Roberta was an avid knitter, a talented baker and was never at a loss for a story to tell.
She was devoted to her children and over the years served as a Girl Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Den mother, and a Sunday school teacher. Roberta was the Past Mother Advisor of Wollaston Assembly, International Order of Rainbow for Girls as well as holding the position of Grand Deputy. She was a long time member of Eastern Star of Braintree.
She was the loving wife of the late John C. (Jack) Ferguson of Quincy. She was the devoted mother of 3 children, Roberta Gregg and her husband Steve of Weymouth, Rev. Bill Ferguson and his wife Maureen of Pelham NH, and Cheryl Ferguson of Vancouver WA. She was the proud “Gram” of Steve and Julie Gregg, Dan, John and Andrew Ferguson and Robert Meade and Great Grandmother to Sarah and Anna Gregg. She is survived by several nieces, grand nieces and nephews as well as the loving caregivers at Pope Nursing Home. She will be greatly missed by many friends whose lives she touched.
Funeral will be at the Quincy Point Church, 444 Washington St. in Quincy on Monday July 2nd at 10 Am with interment to follow at Blue Hills Cemetery .Visiting Hours from 4-8 at CC Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) South Weymouth on Sunday July 1st from 4-8
In lieu of flowers donations in Roberta’s memory may be made to Vista Care Hospice, whose workers were a great comfort to Roberta and her family at Gentiva Hospice Foundation
