George F. Pratt of S. Weymouth, born October 16, 1931 died May 24,2012 aged 80 yrs. Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Knowles) Pratt, loving father of Kenneth R. Pratt of Provincetown, Lynne E. and husband Martin Grant of Braintree, Joanne C. Pratt and husband Michael Goldstein of Sherborn, and Karen D. and husband Alex Belmonte of Holbrook. Dear friend of Rosemarie Bonani of Holbrook. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Allison, Emily, Andrew and Elizabeth.Brother of Joseph Pratt of Florida, Shirley Pineau of S. Weymouth and June Jackson of Abington and predeceased by five other siblings:Katherine Poe, Gustavus Pratt, Henry Pratt, Donna Pratt and Janice Jimoulis. He also leaves an uncle, William Lavery, and his wife Dorothy of Norwell. George leaves many nieces and nephews.
George was born and lived most of his life in Weymouth. He was a retired schoolteacher and guidance counselor of almost 40 yrs in Weymouth Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He served 3 terms as a Weymouth Town Meeting Member, was a member of Old South Union Church and a former Volunteer at South Shore Hospital. He was a graduate of Suffolk University and earned a Master's Degree from UMass Amherst. He was an active member of the OPALS singing group and an avid golfer and gardener.
Visiting hours at the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home 134 Pleasant Street,(Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Monday, May 28 from 4-8pm. Funeral service to be held at the Old South Union Church, 25 Columbian St., S. Weymouth on Tuesday May 29 at 11 am followed by interment at the Lakeview Cemetary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to Hospice of the South Shore, 100 Bay State Dr. Braintree, MA 02185-9060 or the charity of your choice.
