Fred K. Tolken Jr., age 92, passed away peacefully at the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Weymouth on Monday May 21, 2012. He was born and grew up in Boston before moving to South Weymouth 58 years ago. Fred was the husband of the late Marjorie B. (Russell) Tolken and the loving companion for 38 years of the late Beverly A. (Baker) Maxwell. He is survived by his children Joyce A. Tolken of Marshfield, David Tolken, Howard R. Maxwell Jr. and his wife Barbara of Ocala, FL, Elaine P. McCormack and her late husband Kevin of Melbourne, FL. Carol A. Wood and her husband Mahlon J. Wood III of Hermon, ME and Karen J. Dearth and her husband Kenneth of Swansea. Fred also leaves 10 grandchildren and 6 great grand children.
Mr. Tolken was a service manager for SCM Corporation in Boston for 30 years. He served his country in the Navy during World War 2 and was proud to witness the signing of the Peace Treaty on the U.S.S. Missouri. Fred was a member of George R. Bean American Legion Post 79 in Weymouth and held many positions in the American Legion. He was a Charter Member of the Weymouth Lodge of Elks # 2232, an avid Train Enthusiast and a lover of Cape Cod.
Friends and relatives are invited to the Funeral at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Thursday May 24, at 11 A.M. and the Visiting Hours on Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery in Weymouth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Fred’s memory to the Colonial Memorial Fund, 125 Broad St. Weymouth, MA 02188.
