William Paul Bimmler, age 90 of South Weymouth passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5th in Pinellas Park, FL.
Survived by his beloved wife Mary (Sheehan Nolan) Bimmler with whom he shared 13 years of marriage, Bill was previously married to the late Annmarie (Black) Bimmler for 49 years until her death in 1996.
Bill was born in Dorchester to Mary (O’Connell) and Bruno Paul Bimmler and spent most of his life in Massachusetts. He worked as an engineer with New England Telephone for over 40 years, was a graduate of Mechanics Arts High School and a veteran of World War II, having served overseas with the U.S. Army Air Corps for four years. He then attended M.I.T. and later received his associates degree from Harvard University.
Throughout his long life Bill had many interests and associations with community, church and professional organizations including the Weymouth PTA and Little League Baseball, Knights of Columbus, and Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed sports, nature, the arts, and his vacation homes on the Cape, in Florida and in St. Martin. But most of all he loved the company of family and friends.
He leaves behind his four children-- Kevin Bimmler and his wife Marie of Assonet, Diane Bimmler and her husband John Panitsas of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL, Kurt Bimmler and his wife Lynne of Reading, and Katherine Reuter and her husband William of San Anselmo, CA. He was the beloved grandfather to Nicole Willette, Katherine, Lindsay, Brett and Paul Bimmler, and Jack Reuter. Great-grandfather to Kaelin, Jarrad and Hannah Willette.
Through his marriage to Mary, Bill became a much-loved stepfather to Mary’s seven children, Mary Beth Burnham, Andrea Donila, Karen Darrer, Dianne Anderson, C. Christopher Nolan, Mark Nolan, and Therese Giardini, and step-grandfather to her 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was a devoted brother to the late Joseph Bimmler of Quincy and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral will be from the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Thursday January 12 at 9 A.M. Funeral Mass at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 261 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth at 10 A.M. Visiting Hours Wednesday from 4 to 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Spina Bifida Association of Greater New England, 219 East Main St. Suite 100B, Milford, MA 01757.
