William R. Heffernan

William “Bill” R. Heffernan Jr., age 81, passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer on Friday October 28, 2011. Bill was born in South Boston, the son of Margaret and William Heffernan. He was a Korean War Veteran and spent his working career as a pressman for the Boston Globe and Boston Herald. Bill was involved in the St. Francis Xavier Drum and Bugle Corps, managing and directing several Corps for over 20 years. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Knights of Columbus.
Bill was the husband for 58 years of Dolly (Glynn) Heffernan and is survived by his children, William T. Heffernan and his wife Linda of Stoughton, Leo J. Heffernan of Raynham and Mary Beth Reynolds and her husband Peter of Middleboro. He also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Andrew, Jamie, Patrick, Lindsey, Connor, Jacqueline and Peter.
The Heffernan family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Bill’s life at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Tuesday November 1 from 3 to 8 P.M. The Funeral will be from the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9 A.M. followed by the Funeral Mass at the St. Francis Xavier Church, 261 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth at 10 A.M. burial will be in the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Weymouth. Donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the St. Francis Xavier Parish, 261 Pleasant St. S. Weymouth, MA 02190.
