Joan C. (Slinger) Pettengill Humphreys passed away on Friday September 9, 2011 at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness. Age 78 beloved wife of George Humphreys and beloved mother of Graham Pettengill and his wife Joanna of Hopkinton, Suzette Shilts and her husband Kirk of Hingham also survived by her 4 Grandchildren Kaitlyn, Brooke, Emmalyn and Jarrod. Stepmother of Diana Dimon and Jeffrey Humphreys both of NC. Christopher Humphreys, of FL. David Humphreys of CT. and Timothy Humphreys of CO. Sister of Sherry M. Kellaway of Norwell and Frederick W. Slinger of Rockland. Joan is also survived by her extended family her wonderful neighbors and friends who made it possible for her and George to live in Hull these past years especially Jon and Joseph. Joan graduated from Rockland High School where she was class valedictorian. She graduated from Boston University Phi Beta Kappa as well as earned a Sigma Kappa scholarship trophy. She also attended University of Connecticut’s
Business Graduate School. She was also a realtor in Connecticut for 10 years, and prior to being a realtor, she was a teacher and taught at Rockland High School as well as Chappaquiddick Middle School in NY. Joan was a vivacious person who was very proud of Hull. She worked on the commission on Disability in Hull to assure accessibility for people with disabilities. She also participated in the Tutor Literacy Program at Jacobs School. And she and her husband George initiated a bread delivery program for the Senior Center. A memorial Service for Joan will be held on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 1 P.M. at the Lighthouse Keepers Residence 15 Lighthouse Lane Cohasset MA. 02025 relatives and friends invited.
